Volunteer Income Tax Preparation
Each year, United Way of Mahaska County (UWMC) offers FREE state and federal tax preparation for qualifying households through our VITA Tax Site. Our IRS certified tax volunteers help low to middle income individuals and families file their taxes free of charge. This service is available thanks to the dedicated professionals who volunteer outside their normal work schedules to make it happen.
Income eligibility for the VITA Tax Site is determined, in part, by the IRS's Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) guidelines. For questions regarding eligibility, please contact Julie at United Way of Mahaska County using the information at the bottom of this page.
Schedule an Appointment
Scheduling of appointments is subject to volunteer availability. The UWMC Vita Tax Site cannot accept walk-in clients. Persons wishing to have their taxes prepared should call in advance to set up an appointment. For more information about scheduling an appointment for the current tax season, see the section below.
