Miss United Way Emily Schutz
United Way of Mahaska County is excited to announce a new program that exemplifies a young woman's intuition to volunteer, lead, and their commitment to academic success.
The Miss United Way of Mahaska County is a young woman who has volunteered through United Way or our partner agency programs, encourages others to give back through service, and is committed to achieving excellence in academics. For the first year, we have made the decision to choose a young woman who has volunteered with us. In future years there will be a brief application and nominations from teachers and school staff.
This year’s Miss United Way of Mahaska County is Oskaloosa High School Junior, Emily Schutz. Schutz has put in over 15 hours of volunteering with United Way in the past six months. Her efforts have helped make Mahaska County better through the Youth Day of Caring, feed children through the Summer Lunch program, and most recently help children get ready for school with the Back-to-School Fair. These are only the volunteering hours. Schutz also encourages her team to give back and volunteer through United Way and isn't afraid to call them when they are tardy. Schutz has been a true volunteer champion for UWMC and we are honored to ask her to be the first Miss United Way of Mahaska County and to have her represent our brand and community.
Miss United Way of Mahaska County will make her debut to the public at the Homecoming Parade on Thursday Sept. 27th. The duties and responsibilities of the Miss UWMC will be to encourage volunteerism at the High School and will participate in future programs and events as a brand ambassador.
