2010 Day of Caring: September 9

What is Day of Caring?

The Day of Caring is a day set aside to mobilize volunteers in our community to help the elderly, assist non-profits with various projects, and help with beautification projects in the community. This event promotes teamwork and gives people a taste of volunteering, while making a difference in the community. No matter what your interest or skills, there is an opportunity for you to get involved. Some projects may include painting a room, landscaping, raking, spreading mulch, sorting food items, mailings, cleaning, preparing classrooms or reading to children.

The Day of Caring matches individuals and teams of volunteers from businesses, schools, faith communities, and community groups with non-profit agencies and others unable to help themselves in Mahaska County who are in need of hands-on help.

Where Does Day of Caring Begin?

Each work session will begin with volunteers gathering at United Way of Mahaska County for a LIVE UNITED Rally. Volunteers will be given an explanation of Day of Caring and the importance of giving back to our community through service. There will be a light lunch and gathering between the two shifts to give our volunteers an opportunity to share their experiences. After each rally the volunteers will leave United Way and report to the organization they were matched with, and work on projects until their work session is over.
