2008 Day of Action
Local Volunteers - LIVE UNITED
On June 21 & 22, 2008, local volunteers reached out a helping hand and a listening ear to help our associates at the United Way of East Central Iowa along with the flood victims in the Cedar Rapids area.
These volunteers traveled to the United Way 2-1-1 Call Center located in Hiawatha, and answered over 1,000 telephone calls from flood victims looking for answers. Some of the calls included people and pet rescues, sandbag information, status of homes, re-entry options into their homes or place of business, public health related issues, housing, donations, volunteering, clean up kits, looking for assistance with clean up, and referrals to City as well as County offices.
A big THANK YOU goes to Musco Lighting for donating a van for the volunteers to travel together! This enabled the Crisis Intervention Services staff to provide a two hour intense Crisis Call Training to the volunteers better preparing them for the calls they were about to receive.
The 2-1-1 Call Center sends their gratitude to our United Way along with the volunteers who worked two long 10 hour shifts giving their staff a much needed break.
The volunteers grouped in the above photo include
Lorrie Ludwick, Jill Dursky, Kayla Slycord, Kay Hamilton, Pat Brainard, Brianne Bartlett, Janet Wagner, Chris Wilson, and Jeff Shaw. Not pictured are Martha Zylstra, Janese Greenhalgh, Neal and Marcia Hadden.
