Day of Caring
United Way of Mahaska County Day of Caring
Day of Caring is a traditional United Way volunteer event that kicks off our annual campaign every September.
The objectives of "Day of Caring" are;
- Involve employees in first-hand experience with local area non-profits, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and projects around the community.
- Raise awareness of community needs and services.
- Allow contributors to see where their money goes.
- Afford employees a great opportunity to work together as a team outside of the workplace.
How it Works:
- Local community agencies and non-profits identify project needs to United Way.
- Companies and organizations identify their interest in participating in Day of Caring to United Way.
- United Way then links companies and projects together and manages the process.
- Teams spend a day working on-site on the project.
Why has UWMC provided Day of Caring for over 4 years now? Day of Caring is an unforgettable, hands-on experience, you get to actively improve our community while spending quality time with co-workers. It is a great way to see your donations to the United Way Campaign at work in the community. Also, Volunteer Team names will appear on:
- Day of Caring publicity
- Programs
- Media coverage wherever possible
Who can be involved? ANYONE! Volunteers will represent corporations, organized labor, media organizations, retailers, service clubs, local government, and small businesses. We encourage anyone and everyone to be involved. We have projects for everyone.
Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make our 4th annual Day of Caring a success in 2011! We had a record number of volunteers, and in one day we had over 861 volunteer hours in our community!
New for 2012 is our Youth Spring into Caring event, which will be a partnership with our local area youth groups to involve youth in projects in our county. Other community members are welcome to participate too!
Date: Saturday May 5th (afternoon)
If you would like to register your youth group (team), please contact our offices at 673-6043, or email: schipperskathryn@gmail.com. Application will be downloaded in the upcoming days. Please check back!
