Being new to the community, and not knowing much about United Way, I was happy to serve as a member of the Allocation Review Committee. Serving on that committee was a wonderful experience. It opened my eyes to how many individuals in the community I could help by donating my time, and money, to just one organization: United Way of Mahaska County. Now, in 2007, I have been a United Way donor and board member for five years. I’m proud of our continued efforts to make Mahaska County a better place. Each year we continue to grow, be it through the addition of new agencies like Big Brothers Big Sisters, or services like our winter coat drive that provided more than 500 coats to families in Mahaska County this year.
